Drawings

Since taking my photographs around Norther Quarter, it has made me focus on where my drawings are going. I have been most inspired by the buildings, with the old fashioned shapes and weathered looks of the brick work. Applying my style of drawing to my images has worked well, as the roughness of my sketches represents the look of the old buildings. I enjoy working with wet material and then adding harsh, dry materials on top, creating multiple layers in the images.

I am a friendly and out going person who has worked well in jobs that require personal interaction. I have worked in areas that involve a lot of trust and handling large amounts of money. This has allowed me to be independent in and out of work.

I am currently studying Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University. My work is based around photography, mono-toned drawings with samples in knit and machine embroidery. I also have skills in tailoring, printing, hand processes and dying.

Anna Ter Haar & Chris Bartels

The ideas and the visuals behind this short film are very similar to the ideas of my group. The video “illustrates the influence of a group on the identity of an individual”. With the models not moving it allows the visuals to be made a whole piece of moving art. The aim of our video is to show the identity of Manchester through different areas, all merged together and shown on one person as a projection. The images are to move around showing each person in the groups work.

Norm Yip

The artist Norm Yip collaborated  with the fashion stylist Bhisan to create a series of images to convey virtual clothes. Their first collaboration involved the use of Christian iconography to create the imagery on the body. They incorporated these images with the model to give the illusion of tattoos. These ideas were to combine the opposing imagery of Christian beliefs and physical art, due to in Christian religion tattoos are forbidden.

Another shoot he did was collaborated with Bhisan and Janice Yip. The images are projections of snakes onto Janice's body. The imagery were seen as 'highly erotic charged images' when they were shown. They have references to religious backgrounds with sexual over tones. These images are a great representative of what we are trying to achieve with our work, the use of projected images on the body to create clothes. 

First Filming in Hotspur House

Today we have tried and tested our ideas in Hotspur House, applying the projection to a person in white in the warehouse. We wanted to see if our vision of virtual clothes could actually been made into a reality.

We met firstly in the studio to collate all our images and drawings/samples. When our work was put together it works well within the patchwork brief and shows the different identities of Manchester. With these images we made a short video to use for the projection. With this ready and loaded we took out projection to the warehouse.

With the projection set up in two different locations, the light was a big issue. Due to it being bright in a lot of the spaces, the projection wasn't coming up on the top as well as it could have. The projection also showed on the wall, it is a problem but it can be over come relatively easily with the positioning of the camera.

This short video shows our ideas coming along since our first attempt. We used a dark corner and filmed from the side to show the projection. We're finding a better location for filming and going to use some models in all white to show our ideas better.
